Booster Bleed Valve

The Booster Bleed Valve assembly sits behind the fan, in front of the first stage compressor. Its function is to bleed air from the core into the bypass duct. Silcoms supply all the rings, levers, housings and shafts as a kit. The company was involved at the initial design stage advising on manufacturability, to enable the design to incorporate the least manufacturing cost.

Compressor ring

A thin wall stainless steel ring with 70 airflow slots that are laser cut by one of our specialist sub-contractors, prior to the application of high temperature anti-corrosion paint.

Tip clearance control ring

Situated in the first stage of the high pressure turbine. Honeycomb segments, which form the seal around the turbine blades, are assembled onto these rings. The rings control the gap between the honeycomb and the blades. Silcoms supplies all the tip clearance control rings for every Rolls-Royce 3-shaft engine.

Support ring

A high pressure turbine component made from Haynes 242. It has two rows of honeycomb brazed onto the inside and outside diameters of an axial slot. The seal diameters have to be generated by Electro Discharge Machining at one of our specialist sub-contractors.

Vent duct

A complex turbine ring component in Inco 718. This part has been the subject of a cost and weight reduction programme between our engineers and the designer. The result, facilitated by changing the material supply to a flash butt welded ring, yielded a 60% cost reduction and significant weight savings.

Baffle support ring

The Baffle support ring is part of the high pressure turbine tip clearence control assembly. It is a triple flange ring made from Inconel, with over 70 slots cut into the second and third flange. Our concurrent engineering involvement at the design stage minimized the potential manufacturing problems without compromising performance or functionality.

Web seal

A honeycomb seal that is part of the H.P. turbine module, manufactured from a Haynes 242 ring rolled forging. The honeycomb brazing is sub-contracted to one of our specialist treatment suppliers, prior to the finish machining of the seal diameters.

Shroud ring

An example of a family of parts manufactured by Silcoms in nickel alloys, stainless steel and aluminium. The components are plasma sprayed with an abradable coating, and when assembled in the engine form the outer surface of a labyrinth seal.

Variable vane pivot ring

These rings are split axially and often radially to allow assembly of the vanes and assembly on the engine. They have a large number of ports bored into them (often at an angle) across the split line into which the vanes fit and pivot. They are manufactured from a number of materials including aluminium, stainless steel and Inconel.
